Within a unique and immersive exhibition, the Crest Art Center is offering this summer the opportunity to discover one of the symbolic artistic practices of Street Art : Graffiti Art.
Graffiti Art finds its origins in the large metropolises of the Eastern United States at the end of the 1960s. Influenced by a social context against a backdrop of economic crisis and urban development conducive to its emergence, this practice is anchored in part in an emerging culture : Hip-Hop.
Graffiti Art then spread from the beginning of the 1980s to other major world capitals, today offering the public a broader spectrum of its practice : original and often illegal Writing : Tag and Graff (piece, masterpiece), to the creation of monumental frescoes to order as part of a muralism festival.
The exhibition offers you a reflective, plural and didactic approach to graffiti by bringing together a selection of works by local and regional artists illustrating the diversity of approaches to this artistic form. Through their hanging, the artists invite you to discover and immerse yourself in the different stages of research, experimentation and creation of their works.

During three live painting sessions, spread over the duration of the exhibition, artists from the Sorry Graffiti collective will create a fresco in front of the Art Center.
Take advantage of these creative times to interact with the artists and see them in action!
The different panels created during the live paintings will gradually be installed within the exhibition.

Ikats, World Cultures and Contemporary Creations

Ikats, World Cultures and Contemporary Creations extends the exhibition Ikats, fabrics of life presented by the Art Center in 2020. Returning to the origins of this age-old process of dyeing and weaving, this new tour presents 45 ikats from the cultures of world – from Malaysia to Japan, via Indonesia and Uzbekistan – as well as contemporary works by Monique and Rémy Prin. Both began practicing ikat in 1975, first for clothing, then for visual research work. At the same time, until recently, they conducted research on ikats along the Silk Road, which they collected during numerous trips.
Creating ikats requires confronting the sensitive and the intelligible. Anticipate, model, project shapes, while keeping imagination as a foundation. But sometimes accept that what we want to see emerge escapes, as there are so many interactions between the reserves, the colors and the weaving itself.
Thus, this new exhibition brings these different types of ikats into dialogue and focuses on their search for meaning. Indeed, traditional ikats have generated as emblems of communities, while the contemporary creator, within globalization, is in search of a meaning to share. It is also faced with the major challenge of time, undoubtedly why few creators today practice ikat.

Aurélie Labbé, weaver, will show you the stages of making ikats during the Wool Festival weekend.
The opportunity also to meet the fifty textile designers brought together by the La Toison d’Art association. On the program: stands, exhibition, workshops, conferences…

# Introductory weaving workshop – FULL
Sunday April 7 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Aurélie Labbé, weaver, will guide you to create a free creation on a wooden frame. Accessible to all, this workshop offers you a pictorial approach to weaving on a very simple loom.

# Shibori workshop, introduction to dyeing – FULL
Wednesday April 17 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Franckie Micholin, from the Au Fil de la Soie association, will introduce you to reserve dyeing techniques, used for making ikats. During this workshop, you will be able to dye silk or cotton floss squares using shibori techniques in different colors including indigo.
